Ford has announced upgrades for its E-Transit Custom electric medium van.
From early next year, the van will come with a bigger battery, with useable capacity up from 64kWh to 71kWh. This boosts the maximum range on the official WLTP cycle from 209 miles to 231 miles.
The upgraded battery comes with improved charging capability, with a 10-80% charge possible in around 29 minutes with a 125kW DC charger. In addition, an over-the-air update for existing E-Transit Customs will make a 10-80% charge possible in around 25 minutes.
Ford is also making the E-Transit Custom available with optional all-wheel drive, via the addition of an independent electric drive unit for the front wheels.
The all-wheel drive version will be available with 136hp, 217hp, and 285hp outputs.
As well as providing extra traction, Ford says the all-wheel drive system allows for around 50% more regenerative braking force to be applied, for optimised energy efficiency.
