Environment Agency acquires 55 AWD Ford Transits

Ford is set to deliver 55 all-wheel-drive Transit vans to the Environment Agency as part of a new fleet deal.
The models will go into service across England, assisting with the Government department’s flood and coastal risk management programmes
The vans are being converted by Leicestershire-based Bott, with racking for tools and extra interior lights. Some of the vehicles are also being turned into ‘welfare units’, equipped with lavatories and heating, which will allow staff members to eat and rest between shifts.
The 55 350 AWD vehicles are powered by Ford’s 2.2-litre diesel engine and join a 1400 strong multi-badge fleet at the Environment Agency.
“Our work inevitably requires us to visit rural areas where access can be a bit of a challenge,” said Dale Eynon, head of fleet services at the Environment Agency, “and while we need vehicles which can get our staff off road, we don’t have a need for massive, carbon-heavy 4x4s.”
