PSA and Toyota reveal MPV versions of next-generation of medium vans

Peugeot, Citroen and Toyota have unveiled the passenger-carrying versions of their medium-sized vans ahead of their respective launches next year.

Known as the Citroen Spacetourer, Peugeot Traveller and Toyota Proace, the models follow on from the first-generation Dispatch/Expert/Proace models.

A PSA spokeswoman told What Van? that the Citroen and Peugeot panel vans would most likely retain the Dispatch and Expert names in the UK.

She added that information relating to the Crew van variants would be released in February, and panel van details will be available in March.

Since 2012, the three manufacturers have been working together on mid-size vans with the intention of the partnership lasting beyond 2020.

The MPVs' first public outings will be at the Geneva motor show in March when details of engines and specifications are set to be revealed

The new vans will be built at PSA Peugeot Citroen’s plant in France, and the vehicles will share powertrains and equipment.

Although Toyota couldn’t confirm which versions of the Proace will be coming to the UK, a spokesman said more variants will be available than at present.

“This agreement has enabled us to develop a new and efficient vehicle platform, offering our customers around the world modern products which are particularly competitive in their segment,” said Patrice Lucas, PSA Peugeot Citroen head of programme and strategy.

“Both teams worked very hard together and at individual brand level and I am confident that our distinctive new van with all its variants will strengthen the Toyota light commercial vehicle offer in Europe,” said president and CEO of Toyota Europe, Johan van Zyl. “The new Proace will complement the range of solid and durable vehicles customers are expecting from Toyota.”
