Coolkit steps up supply of fridge vans to food distribution charity

Conversion firm Coolkit has now supplied 19 refrigerated vans to food distribution charity Fareshare, which has seen a spike in demand during the coronavirus pandemic.
Coolkit first linked up with Fareshare 12 months ago when it supplied a single fridge van conversion to the charity’s Yorkshire depot.
Mark Beaton, sales manager at CoolKit said: “Their [original] request was for a single refrigerated van, which was no problem at all, but I recognised there was a bigger picture here and an opportunity to do our bit.”
As a result CoolKit opened up a supply partnership with Fareshare for new refrigerated vans, in which CoolKit makes an annual donation based on 1% of the net spend on new vehicle orders within a year.
Between June 2019 to March 2020, FareShare ordered 14 Peugeot Boxer refrigerated vans from CoolKit but once the pandemic took hold demand doubled, seeing FareShare deliver an average of almost two million meals a week to those at risk of hunger through 11,000 frontline charities across the UK.
Fareshare made an urgent request for two more refrigerated vans and, despite its supply chain being closed down by the lockdown, Coolkit met the order by loaning the charity a pair of vans from its own fleet until movement within the manufacturing sector enabled it to complete the build of Fareshare’s own vehicles.
Fareshare has subsequently ordered three more vans from Coolkit as demand for its service continues to remain high.
