LEVC to close plant from next week

LEVC, the maker of the London Taxi, has announced it will close its Coventry factory for three weeks from 30 March.

The manufacturer, which recently presented a new hybrid 1.0t van, is one of the last holdouts in Europe, as almost all car and LCV manufacturers have suspended production amid the coronavirus crisis.

To minimise the impact of the closure, LEVC is extending its planned Easter shutdown from one week to three.

CEO Joerg Hofmann said: “LEVC is committed to the wellbeing of our employees and keeping all jobs secure throughout this difficult period. Our strategic direction remains on track and, with high levels of customer demand and further growth planned this year, taking these measures to adjust production now will ensure that we are ready to react and supply the markets again as soon as possible.”
