Rapid charger installed for Oxford fleet

The first 50kW rapid charger in Oxford has been installed for vehicles that carry out services for the city council.
The charger has been installed at the ODS depot in Cowley as part of the £41 million Energy Superhub Oxford (ESO) project, led by Oxford City Council and Pivot Power.
The new charger joins 32 fast 22kW chargers at ODS.
ODS, which delivers council services including waste collection, street cleaning, and management of property, highways and parks, is adding 34 new electric vehicles to its fleet this year.
This includes three Nissan E-NV200 vans, two LDV80 cage tippers, 14 Renault Kangoo Z.E Maxi LL vans (some of which have been delivered, with others still on order), and seven Peugeot e-Expert vans which ODS is planning to order when order books open.
These LCVs are alongside cars and larger specialist vehicles, such as a refuse collection vehicle due for a trial later this year.
ODS plans to make a quarter of its 330-vehicle fleet electric by 2023.
Pivot Power ESO programme manager Tim Rose said: “These chargers, the vehicles that will use them and the information they deliver, will allow us to demonstrate how through research and real life actions, electric vehicles can form part of a smart, local energy system that accelerates Oxford’s journey to zero carbon and benefits the whole community.”
