EV Express delivered iPads for Age UK

Isle of Wight-based EV Express has teamed up with Age UK to deliver iPads to care home residents to enable them to stay in touch with their loved ones during the coronavirus lockdown.

The electric vehicle leasing firm was trialing a Renault Kangoo Z.E. 33 demonstrator when the lockdown came into force and kept the plug-in van active on its fleet to serve the Isle of Wight community.

EV Express offered its assistance to Connect Us, an initiative supported by Age UK Isle of Wight that provides iPads to care homes on the island, which are then used by residents to connect with family and friends via video.

The firm has also used the van to help local restaurants, which had to rapidly adapt to keep their businesses trading by switching to delivering food.

EV Express claims the Kangoo Z.E. was able to cover almost 140 miles on the island’s roads on a single charge while making stop-start deliveries.

Mark Dickens, Fleet director at Renault UK, said: “We’re delighted that the Renault Kangoo Z.E.33 could help with such an important initiative, especially at such a challenging time. While the community was benefiting directly from its use, it was also a good illustration of how electric vehicles are [as] perfect [a] fit for more rural areas, such as the Isle of Wight, as they are for urban environments.”
