Converter Vantastec has begun offering a full range of electric fridge vans.

Having initially carried out testing with a Renault Kangoo Z.E. conversion, the company is now offering this along with Peugeot Partner Electric and Nissan e-NV200 conversions.

The company hopes the vehicles will appeal to urban operators looking to cut down on emissions.

Co-director Gareth Edwards said: “We have customers contacting us regularly about the availability of fully-electric refrigerated vehicles.

"After extensive field testing with select customers and local authorities, we are happy to now be launching our full range to the public.

“Previous technology meant we weren’t able to reach performance levels of our diesel conversions. However, these trials have allowed us to tweak the specifications of our electric vehicles to bring them to the level they are at now.

“The future in the light commercial vehicles industry is in utilising fossil-free technology. Offering businesses more vehicles that reduce their carbon footprint will be a massive help in achieving our environmental goals.”

Vantastec is expecting more UK cities to follow the lead of London, which has introduced its Ultra Low Emission Zone to charge operators of the most polluting vans, and also offers a scrappage scheme with up to £9,500 off an electric van.

Co-director Colin Smith said: “It wouldn’t be too far-fetch to think that most UK cities will be following London’s footsteps in the near future.

“Already we’ve seen Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds and more be mandated by the government to introduce clean air zones.

“It is up to us, as manufacturers and suppliers, to provide solutions that work alongside these plans. That’s why our engineering team is always developing solutions that will help businesses adapt to these changes and keep running smoothly.”
