Leaseplan UK launches van electrification tool

A new online tool designed to help van drivers decide if they can go electric has been launched by Leaseplan UK.

The leasing company said the new tool was designed to help raise awareness of the expanding range of electric vans available, and to support the UK’s transition to low-emission vehicles.

The tool asks drivers to answer questions on the journeys they make for work, their average payload, and where their vehicle is kept overnight, before showing them which fuel type would be best suited to their needs, from the options of electric, hybrid, diesel, and petrol.

The results include a compatibility score and a list of pros and cons for each vehicle type.

Leaseplan UK head of commercial vehicles Matthew Dillon said: “Many commercial vehicle drivers we speak to want to make the switch to electric, but still think that eLCVs aren’t for them yet - whether that’s down to compatibility or cost.

“There are so many great benefits to eLCVs, like cheaper running costs – both in fuel and maintenance – and exemption from the London Congestion Charge and Low Emission Zone charges. Some areas even offer free parking to electric vehicles.

“It’s therefore essential that we continue to raise awareness of the growing range of plug-in vans and the support that’s available to support van drivers with the switch.

“With the 2030 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars – and vans - around the corner, and new clean air zones in the pipeline along with the expansion of London’s ULEZ to the South and North Circular, there’s never been a better time to go electric. And now with the help of our easy-to-use tool, drivers can make a measured decision based on their own circumstances.”
