New Ford Transit ambulance unveiled

Ford has announced plans for a new ambulance version of its Transit van.

Scheduled to enter production in mid-2021, the new model is said to have been developed in conjunction with industry experts and frontline medical teams.

Based on the Transit chassis cab, the body and conversion will be built by Venari Group – parent company of ambulance manufacturer O&H Vehicle Technology.

The vehicle’s launch will follow detailed testing and validation at Ford’s advanced proving facilities. Its lightweight design – remaining within a 3.5t vehicle weight – is said to have been developed to be fully compatible with all-electric powertrains, which Ford says providing a future-proof solution for ambulance operators looking to transition to zero-emission fleets.

Advanced digital connectivity is said to supports efficient restocking and vehicle maintenance, while lightweight design aims to help reduce emissions and operating costs associated with heavier vehicles.
