2030 end to new ICE van sales not possible, BVRLA says

A ban on new petrol and diesel van sales in 2030 would be unachievable, the BVRLA has said.

The rental and leasing industry body said a government consultation was expected to begin in late September on returning the date for new ICE car sales to 2030. It added that although the position on vans was currently unclear, they were expected to be included along with cars in the consultation, thought likely to focus on which hybrid vehicles could continue to be sold until 2035.

The BVRLA said that through its involvement with the Zero Emission Van Plan, it had been communicating the challenges facing electric van adoption with the industry and the government.

BVRLA chief executive Gerry Keaney said: “When it comes to electric van adoption, the lack of suitable BEV LCV product in – or about to hit – the UK market means the fleet sector will not be able to reach a 2030 phase-out target.”
