Ford claimed the medium-sized van, which kicks-off the brand’s drive to renew its entire CV line-up by 2014, takes the Transit upmarket with new levels of sophistication without sacrificing any of its traditional functionality.

Jesus Alonso, Ford of Europe’s head of CV Marketing, Sales and Service, said: “This is a stylish, modern van, which customers will be proud to have on their driveway while losing none of the hard-working attitude they expect from a Transit.”

The Custom will be rolled out from September in single cab, double cab and kombi modes.

The model has taken its design cues from Ford’s Kinetic design passenger car range.

From launch the Custom will come in short wheelbase (overall length 4.97 metres) and long wheelbase (5.34 metres) versions.

Maximum loadspace will be 6.0m3 while payloads will range from 600 to 1400kg.

Features include a load-through hatch in the bulkhead to enable pipes or ladders of up to three metres to fit inside the vehicle.

Powered by Ford’s 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine with outputs of 100, 125 and 150hp, Auto-Start-Stop comes as standard, delivering official combined fuel consumption of 42.8mpg and CO2 emissions of 174g/km.
