The manufacturer said it developed the four-wheel drive, double cab GR-HEV Sport Utility Hybrid Truck as a conceptual successor to its line of one-tonne pick-ups that started in 1978 with the original L200.
Combining a 2.5-litre diesel engine with a single, front-mounted electric motor, a battery pack located within the ladder frame, an automatic gearbox and its Super-all wheel control (S-AWC) 4WD system, Mitsubishi claimed the GR-HEV would achieve emissions of below 149g/km.
It said the addition of the electric motor to the diesel engine would boost acceleration, increase high-end torque and reduce noise levels as well as providing the ability to power electrical components such as a 100v winch or drive short distances in pure electric mode.
Taking Mitsubishi’s three-diamond corporate badge as the design theme, GR-HEV rides on 3-spoke alloy road wheels using lightweight non-alloy spokes. It has dimensions by length, width and height of 5420 x 1930 x 1775 mm
