Toyota has unveiled a new, sportier version of its Hilux pick-up.
The new Hilux GR Sport features an upgraded suspension system, with new shock absorbers and front springs, which Toyota says has been designed to provide improved handling.
The GR Sport features the most powerful engine option from the existing Hilux range, a 2.8-litre 201hp diesel which also provides 500Nm of torque, and is mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
The Hilux GR Sport will be available as a double cab model only, and retains the Hilux’s regular load-carrying capabilities, with a payload of up to 1t and braked towing capability of up to 3.5t.
Exterior styling features include a black front grille with G-pattern mesh and a prominent central horizontal bar with classically rendered Toyota branding, along with larger front fog light surrounds, contrast black and machined finish 17in alloy wheels fitted with all-terrain tyres, a black finish for the door mirror casings, side steps, over-fenders, tailgate handle, and sports bar, and bright red suspension detailing.
Inside there are sports front seats trimmed in black leather and synthetic suede with red perforations and contrast stitching, along with GR Sport branding on the seat backs, floor mats, and starter button.
Gearshift paddles are fitted, along with aluminium sports pedals, carbon fibre-style trim inserts, a red deco line across the instrument panel, and blue door panel illumination.
Equipment levels are based on the existing invincible trim, and include a premium JBL sound system, sat-nav, heated front and rear seats, a 360-degree camera, LED headlights and combination lights, smart entry and push-button start, dual-zone air conditioning, downhill assist control, and an automatic limited-slip differential.
The Hilux GR Sport will arrive in the UK in summer 2022, priced at £37,551 excluding VAT. Orders will open later this month.
