Sales in June were up 3.4% year-on-year to 24,041, according to the SMMT, and in the first half-year volumes were up 11.2% to 133,177 units compared to the same period in 2012.
Nigel Base, SMMT commercial vehicle manager said: "Looking ahead to the rest of 2013, we expect the van market to remain stable with a return to a more normal replacement cycle sustaining the market.”
In June the two biggest growing segments were pick-ups, which rose 29% to 2303, and medium vans (2.0-2.5-tonnes), up 27% to 3712.
On the other hand sales in the biggest market sector, heavy vans, fell 2.5% to 12,992 units.
