The agreement will see PSA provide Toyota with medium-sized vans, which will be sold under the Japanese manufacturer’s brand name. Initially the models will be based on the Peugeot Expert and Citroen Jumpy, which is badged the Dispatch in the UK, but the deal also extends to include the next generation of PSA’s vans. The supply of vehicles will start from mid-2013 and is expected to continue until at least 2020.

Toyota Motor Europe(TME) contribute to the development and investment costs of the next generation product but there are no plans for the companies to enter into capital tie-ups or joint production.

TME president and CEO Didier Leroy said: “By joining forces with PSA Peugeot Citroen we have found a good solution for our loyal customers following the recent discontinuation of our own Hiace model. We already enjoy a successful joint-venture partnership with PSA in the small car segment and they are a leader in the European LCV market with a solid reputation for quality and versatility,”

Jean-Christophe Quemard, PSA’s programmes executive vice-president, said the agreement would provide both companies with “a competitive product for the European market”.
