Ford is introducing a 10-speed automatic gearbox on the 170hp rear-wheel drive (RWD) Transit.
The gearbox is an in-house Ford development and has previously been offered on the Ranger and the American-market F150 pick-up trucks, so it has been proven in heavy-duty applications.
The new automatic can be specified on Transit versions with GVMs ranging from 3,500kg to 4,600kg, with single- or dual-rear-wheel options, and with chassis cab, minibus and van body styles. The transmission allows the Transit to tow up to 2,800kg, with a gross train weight of 6,100kg.
All RWD Transits are still available with a six-speed manual gearbox, while the 130hp and 185hp RWD Transits and the front-wheel drive versions still get an optional 6-speed automatic.
