The Road Haulage Association (RHA) has appointed David Boot as its new UK director of public affairs and policy.

Boot, whose appointment will take effect on 29 September, is said to bring nearly 20 years of experience in public affairs, policy and stakeholder engagement across the transport, science and education sectors to the role.

He joins the RHA from London North Eastern Railway, where he headed the company’s stakeholder team.

Boot will be tasked with leading the RHA’s public affairs and policy work across the UK, strengthening engagement with government, policymakers, and key stakeholders at all levels, and championing and supporting the commercial vehicle and road transport sector, including van, HGV, and coach operators.

He said: “I’m excited to be joining the RHA at such a pivotal time for the road transport sector. With so much change across decarbonisation, infrastructure, and workforce challenges, it’s more important than ever that our key sector’s voice is at the table.

“I look forward to working with members, colleagues, trusted partners and policymakers throughout the UK to help shape a positive future for the industry.”

RHA MD Richard Smith said: “We’re delighted to welcome David to the RHA. His experience across major transport infrastructure organisations, combined with a strong record of political engagement and policy influence, will be a huge asset to our members and our organisation.

“David’s appointment strengthens our voice in Westminster, the devolved nations, and across the regions, ensuring the needs of our sector are clearly heard and strongly represented.”
