The brand made 53,465 vans on the Vivaro platform at Luton and 5373 Astravans at Ellesmere Port.

However, the number of vans produced at the Luton plant was down significantly compared to the 68,000 that rolled off the assembly line the previous year while the manufacturer has already announced it will stop making the Astravan in 2013 due to its customer base being largely covered by the Combo, which is produced alongside the Fiat Doblo at the Italian brand’s facility in Turkey.

Nevertheless, Vauxhall churned out nearly twice as many vans as any other manufacturer in the UK last year – Ford built around 28,000 Transit vans at its Southampton factory, which it is to close down in July 2013, with production also set to move to Turkey.

Vauxhall saw its LCV sales fall by almost 21% in 2012 to 26,524 units, in an overall market that was down 8% to 239,641, according to the SMMT.
