Hi-Speed rushes more Sprinters into service

Date: Friday, July 11, 2008

Half-a-dozen more Mercedes-Benz Sprinters have joined Ash, Aldershot, Hants-based Hi-Speed Services. All Long-bodied 311CDIs, they were supplied through Crawley, West Sussex dealer Rossetts Commercials and are set to clock up around 100,000 miles annually.
With a customer list that includes well-known businesses such as British Aerospace and Unipart, Hi-Speed provides a same-day delivery service. It runs 26 Sprinters as part of a 40-plus fleet and each one is likely to cover over 200,000 miles before it is retired.

“As long as they are serviced regularly we never have any problems with them,” says managing director, Ian Dawkins.

The firm has a depot in Rugby plus a number of local offices throughout the Midlands and the south of England.

Elsewhere, petfood specialist Anglian Meat Products of Watton, Norfolk, has just acquired four 4.6-tonne Sprinter 411CDIs that can transport products at both refrigerated and ambient temperatures. Four more Sprinters will appear before the end of the year.

“They can carry about 1,700kg of payload, around 600kg more than we could transport in the 3.5-tonners we used to run,” says transport manager, Paul Collyer. “That's allowed us to increase the productivity of our distribution operation.”
