Ford launches London scrappage scheme for vans

Date: Monday, April 4, 2011

Ford is introducing a commercial vehicle scrappage scheme for its London-based customers.

Owners of vans of at least 10 years old will qualify for a discount of up to £3000 by exchanging their vehicle for a new model. The scrappage scheme incentive includes the Fiesta Van, Transit Connect and Transit.

The blue oval’s move follows the announcement from London mayor Boris Johnson (pictured right with Ford's Steve Clary) that he aims to join manufacturers in delivering financial support to van and minibus operators affected by changes to the London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) coming into force on 3 January 2012.

Owners of larger commercial vehicles in greater London who do not meet Euro 3 emissions standards by this date face a £100 daily charge or £500 penalty.

Johnson said: “I am delighted Ford is being so supportive with its commercial vehicle scrappage scheme. It is particularly pleasing that vans running on engines made locally in the capital are part of this package. Ford’s commitment as  market leader is a fantastic contribution to my goal of a less polluted London.”

The LEZ initiative started in 2008 but from next year an additional 72,000 commercial vehicles will be included.

The Ford scheme offers customers discounts of £1000 on a Fiesta Van, £1500 on a Transit Connect, £2000 on a Transit FWD and £3000 on  Transit V348 RWD.

Ford’s UK commercial vehicle boss Steve Clary said: “Ford is acting in advance of the new LEZ measures to ease the transition from older vans into new commercial vehicles.”
