Peugeot shows off fleet strength

Date: Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Peugeot displayed its Bipper, Partner, Expert and two Boxer conversions in Birmingham.
With no new product coming to market in the last 15 months the brand used the show to highlight the success of its big fleet deals. Peugeot was particularly keen to draw attention to its contract with Royal Mail, which has seen it hand over 3000 vans to the postal delivery service in the last 16 months.
Fleet director Phil Robson said the deal was symptomatic of the Bipper’s growing popularity with large fleets as operators increasingly looked to downsize.
Robson said fleet buying decisions had changed and were now based on whole life costs.

“The question is how empty is the van when it leaves the depot? What are you going to carry?”
Whereas small businesses often need a “just-in-case van”, Robson said big firms were more flexible.
He added that the recession had meant small business buyers and single van operators had effectively been absent from the market for two years.
