VW confirms Amarok prices

Date: Monday, February 28, 2011

Volkswagen has confirmed pricing for its Amarok pick-up, which goes on sale on 1 May 2011.

Available in three trim levels, the range starts at £16,995 for the Startline model, rises to £18,995 for the Trendline and moves up to £21,575 for the flagship Highline version (all prices exclude VAT).

The four-wheel drive Amarok comes to the UK in double-cab guise and with the choice of two diesel powertrains. Customers can select all models with the 2.0-litre BiTDI 163hp engine while the entry level Startline is also available with a 2.0-litre TDI 122hp unit.

Standard equipment on the Startline includes 16-inch alloy wheels, 4MOTION Selectable 4WD, which is available across the full model range, electric windows, semi-automatic air-conditioning and single CD/radio.

The Trendline comes with two-zone automatic air-conditioning, RCD 310 radio/CD player, cruise control, multi-function computer and leather trimmed steering wheel, handbrake and gear knob. The mid-range model also sports colour-coded mirrors, front bumper and wheelarch extensions, front fog lights and 17-inch alloys.

The top of the range Highline is marked out by chrome detailing on the front grille, door mirrors and rear bumper. It also features stainless steel sidebars, privacy glass, 18-inch alloys, leather upholstery, heated front seats and rear parking sensors.

Safety systems fitted across the range include six airbags, ESP incorporating brake assist system, traction control, electronic differential locking, hill hold assist, hill descent control, trailer stability control and off-road ABS, which shortens stopping distances on loose surfaces.

The 4MOTION Selectable 4WD system offers a choice between rear-wheel drive, 4WD and low range 4WD via a button mounted on the dashboard.

Models fitted with this system have a gross vehicle weight of 3170kg and a payload capacity of over 1045kg.

The Highline is also offered with 4MOTION Permanent, a full-time 4WD system. This reduces payload to below 1045kg but, VW claims, delivers “a more car-like driving experience with improved ride and refinement”.

Options across the Amarok range include sat-nav, additional load bay and underbody protection and 19-inch alloys.

Key rivals will include Nissan's Navara, priced from £16,640 to £28,240 and Mitsubishi's L200, ranging from £13,249 to £21,649.
