More than 170 Peugeot vans have joined the fleet of power meter firm SMS.

The deal includes 140 medium-sized Expert vans, which have been fitted with racking, shelving and equipment to carry smart energy meters and related equipment for SMS’s installation engineers.

The conversion means the equipment can be stored safely and is easily accessible, according to SMS.

SMS fleet installations manager Yvonne Cannon said: “The conversion was designed following extensive planning and consulting with SMS installation engineers and operations managers.

“The installation includes anti-slip flooring to ensure safety in all weathers and motion-sensor-activated interior lighting in the vehicle load space.”

The SMS deal also includes 26 light Partner vans, to be used by electrical engineers who install meters at business premises, and five large Boxer panel vans for engineers installing larger gas meters.

For the latter, conversion work included installing racking, a work bench, an inverter and hand cleaning equipment, along with a rail-track type system for carrying the meters.

All the vans were supplied through Peugeot dealer Robins and Day Sheffield North and fitted out by local conversion specialists.
