Leasing company Arval UK says the number of electric vans on its fleet has increased by 249% during the last 12 months.

This increase takes the total number of electric vans on the fleet to 991.

Overall, there has been a 102% increase in the number of EVs on Arval’s fleet, including also a 98% increase in electric cars.

Arval UK commercial director Joel Lund said that while electric LCV take-up was still some way behind that seen for cars, he expected that situation to change during the next couple of years.

He said: “You can see from our figures that the picture for electric vans is similar to the electric car market around five years ago.

“However, the introduction of some new and impressive models should help to change this situation quite rapidly, as well as a growing understanding of how to use electric vans operationally in a manner than maximises their benefits.

“In a year or two, we expect to see a completely different picture as more commercial vehicle fleets start on the journey to electrification.”
