New Ford E-Transit Custom revealed

Ford has unveiled the E-Transit Custom, the new electric version of the UK’s best-selling van.
The model features a 74kWh battery pack – with cell technology offering 12% more energy density than previously seen with the E-Transit – with which Ford is targeting a range of up to 236 miles between charges on the official WLTP cycle.
Charging speeds of up to 125kW will be possible with compatible chargers, allowing a 15-80% charge in 41 minutes. Alternatively, an 11kW onboard charger will be capable of a full battery recharge in 7.8 hours.
There will be a choice of two electric motor options, offering either 135hp or 217hp.
Maximum payload is up to 1,100kg, and towing capacity up to 2,000kg. Ford says a lower load floor offers improved access, and independent rear suspension helps driving dynamics.
Panel van versions will offer load volumes between 5.8m3 and 9m3, and double-cab-in-van and kombi bodystyles will also be available, all with a choice of short of long wheelbase and low or high roof.
The E-Transit Custom will come with vapour-injected heat pump technology – which Ford claims is a market first – to heat and cool the cabin, with the aim of improving energy efficiency and optimising driving range.
One year’s complimentary Ford Pro E-Telematics will also be included.
Interior technology will include a 13in touchscreen running Ford’s Sync 4 infotainment system.
An optional tilting steering wheel is capable of becoming an ergonomic stand for tablets and laptops, as well as a flat-topped table, while a delivery assist system will automatically switch on the van’s hazard lights, close any open windows, and lock the door once the driver leaves the van, with the driver able to keylessly re-enter and start the vehicle once the delivery is complete, with the hazard lights switching off and the windows returning to their previous position.
Production of the E-Transit Custom is due to start in autumn next year. Prices are yet to be announced.
