Newly-funded EV chargers must consider commercial vehicles, Logistics UK says

EV chargers to be installed through a new tranche of UK Government funding must make provision for the needs of commercial vehicles, according to Logistics UK.
The government this week announced an additional £56 million of funding for EV charger installation, which it said would result in up to 2,400 chargers being installed in the short term and tens of thousands more delivered by local councils further into the future.
Reacting to the announcement, Logistics UK senior policy manager Denise Beedell said: “While this funding […] is a much-needed step forwards on the route to net zero, the charging requirements of the commercial vehicle sector must be factored into any developments.
“Local authorities must ensure that any new public EV chargepoint installation and infrastructure provides adequate electric vehicle charging infrastructure with sufficient space for use by commercial vehicles.
“An immediate uplift in the number of public chargepoints that can be used by battery electric vans and a recognition of the future needs of battery electric trucks, is vital to give the logistics sector the confidence to invest in zero emission at the tailpipe vehicles.”
