Northgate Vehicle Hire has announced what it says are the top three electrification challenges for LCV fleets, based on operators’ comments.

The company surveyed more than 60 van operators who attended Northgate’s EV open days at its Cannock and Snodland branches.

The number one challenge they are facing was said to be understanding how EVs compare with diesel vehicles, including in how they work, their range, costs, performance and drivability.

The second challenge was said to be knowing where to start with workplace and employee home charging, mainly because of a lack of data.

The third challenge was said to be coming to terms with the different vehicle charger types available, including AC and DC, as well as vehicle charging speeds, and the issues around driver reimbursement for home charging.

At its EV events, Northgate gave attendees the chance to drive a range of electric vans, put their fleet through an EV suitability test, and find out the benefits of driver training for successful EV adoption.

Northgate sales and marketing director Neil McCrossan said: “We can introduce customers to fleets who are further along their journey to Net Zero and help them gather the data necessary to support decision making.

“Our rental proposition is also proving flexible in getting fleets into different vehicle types without them having to lock into long term funding.”
